If you haven’t already marked your calendars for our first FREE public/virtual lecture about the Abydos royal brewery, we’ll be streaming live from the Harvard Museums of Science & Culture / HMANE, Thursday, October 14 at 6:00pm (EDT). Register here for the free zoom link and join us on the 14th to learn more about this exciting discovery and our plans for continued excavation & scientific analysis at the predynastic brewery site.

And speaking of plans, we’re thrilled to report that the continued investigation of the Abydos brewery will be supported by a major research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. We’re especially honored to be included among the first grants made under NEH’s new Archaeological and Ethnographic Field Research grant program.

We were also excited to be featured in Feedspot’s Top 50 Archaeology Blogs on the web for 2021.

What to look for throughout the fall

  • A cross-blog post on Abydos in the archives with our friends at the SURA project

  • A new publications page rolling out here at abydos.org, where you can now also find an expanded History section

  • Another public lecture streaming from the Belgian beer capital of the world in November

  • And details on the next North Abydos excavation season coming soon!

What we’re reading now—Rob DeSalle and Ian Tattersall’s Natural History of Beer & Omar Foda’s Egypt’s Beer: Stella, Identity, and the Modern State.

Thoughts & questions always welcome.
